A coroner in West Galway, Ireland has ruled that the death of 76-year-old Pensioner, Michael Faherty, in December of 2010 was caused by spontaneous human combustion. Spontaneous combustion is said to occur when the body of a person is found burned without any apparent external source of ignition. The fire which killed Mr. Flaherty had not caused any damage except to the man's body and the ceiling and floor of the sitting room where the body was found. Dr. Ciaran McLoughlin, the coroner who conducted the autopsy on the badly burned corpse, stated during an inquest in Galway, that there was no adequate explanation for the fire except spontaneous human combustion.
