A former emergency medical technician from Staten Island is in hot water for taking a photo of a strangled murder victim in March and posting it on his Facebook page. Mark Musarella, 46, a retired police officer who up until recently worked as an EMT for Richmond University Medical Center, took a photo of 26-year-old Caroline Wimmer after he responded to the scene of her murder on March 30, according to sources familiar with the incident. Ms. Wimmer was found strangled to death with a hair dryer cord inside her Greenleaf Avenue home in West Brighton.
Twin brothers were arrested on suspicion of robbery in the Netherlands after a victim of the robbery identified his alleged attackers from a picture on Google Street View. The picture showed the twin brothers following the 14-year-old boy who was robbed in September 2008. One twin followed behind while the other twin walk along side the teen who was riding his bicycle in the photo. The boy told police that the twins had robbed him of 165 euros and a cell phone in the city of Groningen. The police retrieved the original photo from Google since Google Street View employs software to obscure people's faces. A police investigator recognized one of the twins from the unblurred photo. Dutch prosecutors are now looking into the case. The twins have yet to be charged with the robbery. In January 2009, Street View also helped locate a kidnapped 9-year-old Massachusetts child.
